Good Choices Kids in Columbus Set a Good Example

Monique Williams and the kids outside the Nursing HomeHere are some pics from Columbus Happy House Mentor, Monique Williams, and her Good Choices Kids from Linden Recreational Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The first pic has Monique Williams and the kids outside the Nursing Home, which they visited Feb 12th. The second pic is a shot of Holly, the magnificent Art Teacher from Linden Rec Center. The kids made scores of beautiful long stem flowers with Holly’s help, and visited the residents of the home as coordinated by Monique, gifting each of them with a flower and a smile. The fourth pic is Carolyn, the Public Service Relations person at the Home, with the kids and their art!

The residents LOVED the visit and the gifts, and the kids surely put numerous Good Choices precepts into action from Set a good Example to Honor and Help your Parents to Help Others Who have Helped You, and Treat Others as You Would Want them to treat you! We hear there’s a plan in the works for Easter! Hat’s off GC Columbus kids!

Dear Peter:

Thanks to you and the volunteers from Happy House, the San Fernando Valley Coalition on Gangs held a successful Salute to Kids, which featured more than forty agencies offering their, while providing a day of entertainment and activities for the families in the Canoga Park area.

This event helped us toward out mission of reducing violent gang crime in the San Fernando Valley by reaching out to a high-risk community, providing them with the tools to become better parents and to steer their children into activities that offer positive alternatives to gang involvement.

We are so grateful that Happy House is always willing to participate in our events.  The responses from the kids and their parents are so positive and the arts and crafts area is always a wonderful addition.  Special thank you and regards to Nancy, as well.

We look forward to sharing the Coalition’s success with you in our newsletter.  In the meantime, if you would like to see, firsthand, how the Coalition operates, we would be delighted for you to attend our meetings or events as honored guests, again.  Please contact me at (818) 374-6894 if you are interested.  Please accept our sincere thanks for your support.

Happy House Plays at Chatsworth Chamber Family Day

Happy House at the Chatsworth Family FestivalThe Chatsworth Chamber of Commerce produced a fun day for families on September 15th filled with booths, food, games and music. Happy House and the Good Choices Program was proud to be a sponsor for the event and host a booth featuring the carnival game, The Big Valley. Simply by rolling a softball sized ball along two rails children of all ages were engaged in testing their skills and tuning in their effort to get the ball to land in The Big Valley.

“This really helped to popularize our booth,” said Executive Director of Happy House, Peter Kjenaas. “The organizers at the Chatsworth Chamber really hit on a great idea to bring the families out to the resource booths. It was a good choice and we appreciate good choices!”

Happy House passed out nearly 500 booklets and met hundreds of parents and children.  Nancy was able to get out for two hours in the heat of the afternoon and sign autographs and take some photo ops with the kids. “This was a really fun event,” said Nancy. “The kids are having so much fun with this simple but very challenging game and we can really meet and get to know the parents.”

In addition, Happy House raffled off a Bart basket and the winner is ALEX SILVA!!!!

Seattle Good Choices Kids Get-Up, Get-Out and Get EVERYBODY Moving!

2012 Celebrate Shoreline ParadeThe How to Make Good Choices Kids’ Club Seattle participated in the 2012 Celebrate Shoreline Parade on August 18, 2012. The theme this year was “Get-up, Get-out, Get moving”!  And that’s exactly what our 19 superkids and 8 adults did!!!

Check out the action of our 19 superstar kids and 8 superstar adults led by the incredible Megan Humphries: They blew bubbles, jumped rope, rode scooters, bikes, trikes, pulled a wagon, pushed strollers and handed out sports stickers and little toys for the kids watching the parade!

Along the parade route, our kids and adults gave out 701 The Way to Happiness booklets as gifts to the parade watchers! The booklets were very well received and many parents started reading them right away.  The Kids’ Club children made up a game of getting the booklets out to every person along the parade route and they had a lot of fun with it!!
