Community United Sweeps the Fantasy of Lights

Jan 9, 2013

The City of San Jose holds an ANNUAL Fantasy of Lights Tour between Thanksgiving and Jan 2. This year the City held a HOLIDAY GREETING CARD CONTEST for the youth of city community groups.

The youth were to design/create a vertical greeting card on a very large wood board around the theme of eating right, getting active and being safe through the holidays.

Cards would be judged by independent judges in 4 categories:

  • Creative Interpretation of the theme
  • Creative Use of Materials including recycled materials
  • Overall Design
  • Craftmanship/Durability

The winning card is on the rightOn Nov 15 2012 there was an Award Reception and Presentation.

Happy House-Community United San Jose, Alma Community Center youth WON first prize!!!!!  And hands down, they won—as noted by the City agency—in ALL 4 categories!

Santa Clara County Parks Web site had photos of the cards and the winners which ran throughout Nov and Dec 2012.

CU SJ youth won a trip for 40 kids to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk including transportation!

We find it so heartwarming that the themes of the contest itself reflect the precepts from How to Make Good Choices based on The Way to Happiness!
