This young lady was a graduate of the “good choices” program at age 9! She is now a young adult and just received a scholarship from the LAPD. She and her parents credit the Happy House Good Choices program played an important role in her success. Well done and congratulations, Ms. Contreras!

“I was in the Jr Cadet Program at LAPD Foothill Stationparticipating in the Good Choices program since the age of 9 years old. From this program I learned in many ways to understand good to bad. I learned respect, responsibility, and communication. The knowledge that I obtained led me to where I am now.

Getting help from Ms. Carol helped me a lot; she tutored me and improved my reading and math skills. I’ll always remember the lesson of the “Swiss cheese.” I am now 18 years old, graduating high school with good grades and going to college. I’m thankful to this program because it changed and improved me and showed me that whatever I set my mind to, I can achieve — because I have.

I have been a trainer to several Jr Cadet classes, passing my learning to younger kids in this program. I am an example, since I was once in their shoes, and I show them how this program will lead them to much more.”
