Volunteer of the Quarter
Mission Area has one of the largest, if not the largest, Cadet and Jr. Cadet programs in the entire city. With 95 Cadets and 80 Jr. Cadets, it is almost impossible for two Officers alone to handle all aspects of the programs. We are very fortunate to have the help of certain volunteers here at Mission who pour their all into these programs. One volunteer in particular gives up every Wednesday evening to come to the station and teach our Jr. Cadets various topics through her “Good Choices” program. She also assesses the Jr. Cadets and tutors them in reading, writing, and math, areas that are in great need of improvement.
This volunteer makes every effort to provide items to our youth programs such as clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, and toys. During the holidays, she makes sure she gathers plenty of gifts for our kids and that no one goes home empty handed. She has also provided food and gifts for one of our needy families during the Christmas season. For the last couple of Cadet Graduations, she has taken the time to drive down to USC and show her support for the new Cadet graduates.
Our volunteers here at Mission are a key component when it comes to the extra help needed to run our youth programs. We are recognizing one of those very important Mission volunteers today. She is a very dedicated and is always asking if there is anything that she can assist with at the station. Mission Area and the Youth Service Officers are honored to have such wonderful help and greatly appreciate Carol Loweree and are recognizing her as Mission Area’s Volunteer of the Quarter.
