Elks Lodge 522 of San Jose Supports the Youth of Happy House Community United

Oct 3, 2012

The Elks Lodge 522 of San Jose produced a Clambake Fundraiser on August 12, 2012 to benefit the Alma Street Youth Center and the Happy House—Community United programs run at this center!

The majority of kids at Alma are “at-risk” youth, meaning they are vulnerable to or likely to fall into gangs and drug use unless there’s some kind of successful intervention. The Elks members acknowledged Community United and its staff for their commitment to creating opportunity for these youth by increasing the youth awareness of the possibilities to lead happier, more creative and productive lives especially through the How to Make Good Choices based on The Way to Happiness Program.

In July, The Elks group at a weekly meeting, did an impromptu fundraiser, and sent many Good Choices graduates to the Great America Theme Park as their reward for finishing the series of workshops!

With the monies raised, approximately $3000.00, Community United will expand the activity programming at the center, provide school supplies and purchase some sports equipment, as well as supplement the food contributions from Trader Joes and Second Harvest Food Bank!

The Elks Club of San Jose Alma area are so very very highly commended for their wonderful work of goodwill, and for helping to make our future generation —the kids in your neighborhood—strong, industrious, competent and happy!
